Guest @ 2011-10-02 12:44:25

Kevin sounds like he is a big shot spelled with an i. Ooops thats a mistake hes a little sh_t

Guest @ 2011-10-02 12:50:13

admittedly, no one else in the league has the guts to challenge everyone balatantly but Kevin.

Guest @ 2011-10-02 13:37:13

On vacation in and docked in key west as I type this. I see we kicked a__ even without me. No one stands a chance this season.

Easiest championship of my many this season.

See u all soon.

Kevin M.

Guest @ 2011-10-02 23:56:31

Im sure it will be easy. reason is very simple....
when you were drafting a punch of "unknown" 1st round picks during your 5th, 6th and 7th rounds, everyone else was just trying to fill the gaps in their teams.

Guest @ 2011-10-03 13:45:34

Kevin is the best cheater in the league....the sad thing, he feels the need to boast about his abilities to lie and cheat

Guest @ 2011-10-04 07:46:52

Black Storm has only lost to teams that picked up ringers in the later rounds of their drafts.

Note to all captains, if someone is "unknown" "never played soccer before" or "looks like he works out", draft them in the first round.

The Toe

Guest @ 2011-10-04 10:40:54

Blah blah blah blah blah........

Guest @ 2011-10-04 11:28:42

suggestion for next season....
all new players should personally get in touch with the commissioner and give a good idea about their skill level. that info should be available to all captains at draft time. if they don't, then they cant be drafted.

Guest @ 2011-10-04 14:13:00

actually I would require new players to play in one of the pickup games prior to the draft

Guest @ 2011-10-04 14:34:49

Correction....2 pickup games. Magic Muslim will advise all his new recruits to \"tank\" the one req\'d pickup otherwise!!!

Guest @ 2011-10-05 09:06:22

why not draft by drawing names out of a hat

Guest @ 2011-10-05 11:30:42

chances are Gold will fair much better if we do that

Guest @ 2011-10-05 11:54:02

Y\'all just deal with it. It\'s not set in stone but it\'s been a long time since my team won the championship (although we would have won last year if Hiram had had the balls to face our team in the playoffs when Josh could be there--but I digress). I need another Championship t-shirt since the WR league is too cheap to give the champions shirts. I think it\'s completely fair this year and hopefully I will get my shirt!!!

David Smith

Guest @ 2011-10-05 20:38:47

there is a reason you havent won in a long time. You havent been on my team since your last championship! But since I am retired, you now have a chance. Oh, and Hiram didnt cost you a championship last season. Red did. If you could have won your one game against us you wouldnt have had to play Hiram's team in the playoffs.

Guest @ 2011-10-05 21:31:02

call that draft deceitful or even lucky but dont call it fair

Guest @ 2011-10-06 10:19:29

who is in charge of updating the results in a timely way?

Guest @ 2011-10-06 10:21:02

I don't want to hear anything about this cheating stuff. U guys sound like a bunch of sore losers. Especially from Gold.
We beat u with only 6 players without any of my new guys.

Guest @ 2011-10-08 07:51:54

The way to fix the draft is to eliminate the snake drafting order if the captains are not equally skilled. That will give the captains who are weaker in the field more opportunities to take risks on new or unknown players. It's not all KM's fault that he was able to use the system in his favor, but he's still a SOB for talking so much about it.

A Voice of Reason

Guest @ 2011-10-10 11:30:41

I am fairly new to this league and enjoy it immensely. That being said I thought I would add my 2 cents.

I have coached several sports and been a part of league drafts over many teams (as coach and player). I can tell you that in just about every sport, a league can be won or lost in a draft. More than anything, the draft separates the “haves” from the “have-nots”. After the draft, one will typically see an “upper half” where the better teams lie; obviously, the “lower half” is a group where teams that have absolutely no shot of winning (the league) can be found.

The snake draft is the most common draft form I have seen, but the “weighed (bucket) modified snake” is becoming increasingly popular:

Each coach is required to rank every single player in the draft from 1-80 (use 80 for sake of discussion). The commissioner then takes the rankings from each coach and creates a Master List where by the average rank of each player is officially made (this list is usually kept confidential so that feelings are not hurt). As the first round draft commences, each coach can only select a player which is ranked in the top 8 (assuming 8 teams). In the second round, a coach can only select a player which is ranked 9-16, and so forth. This process makes it more difficult for a coach to select a “sleeper”. It also decreases the incompetence a coach might have in selecting a player higher or lower than he “should have been selected” (this cannot be overvalued enough). Whenever a coach comes to the round where his name appears in that “round bucket”, he must pick himself. This will ensure that a weaker player is not penalized when coaching/picking teams against a superior player/coach. For instance, Kevin M. and Josh would have to “pick themselves” in the first round.

I’m sure there are several on this board who believes this to be a bad idea. I, frankly, am not that concerned with how this league can be improved (I enjoy it already). I cannot thank Barnard, and others in leadership, enough for driving this bus and enjoy delaying the continued growth of my girth which age and inactivity has contributed to.

Guest @ 2011-10-10 15:44:41

seems too logical to do this.....ergo it will be never done in this league.

Guest @ 2011-10-10 16:45:51

lol; That was the kind of response I expected.

Guest @ 2011-10-10 16:54:55

Great suggestion.
I think we should adapt it

Guest @ 2011-10-10 21:50:44

that would require Kevin B to start things more than three hours before the draft.

Guest @ 2011-10-11 07:11:58

I'm not sure if I understand your objection.
Kevin B would not be required to start things three hours before the draft. As soon as registration is closed, send the list/spreadsheet of players to each coach. Each coach would be responsible for ranking the list and returning the spreadsheet back to Kevin. Excel could merge the lists and assign a mean average to each player in seconds.

Keep in mind, if a coach does not submit his rankings, he is only hurting himself (because his ranking is not factored into the equation).
I could get more detailed, but I'm sure those of you who have been involved with a draft (even a fantasy draft) understand how advantageous it is that your calculation/ranking be applied.

Guest @ 2011-10-11 10:17:56

I like the modified snake draft idea. Do it.

Guest @ 2011-10-11 10:29:10

Makes better sense than what we're doing now.

Guest @ 2011-10-11 11:12:06

I said "more" than three hours before the draft. Kevin B rarley has the full list of players before that point. You cant rate players who are not on the list.

Guest @ 2011-10-11 14:20:41

That's a great draft plan. As a member of the fairly invincible "White Trash" I can say that I often find myself wishing for a little competition. Oh crap Kevin is rubbing off on me...
Anything to fix the skill disparity among captains will improve this league. Barnard are you getting this?

Guest @ 2011-10-11 14:53:11

This shouldn't be that hard--
For those that are not on the list (and not ranked), place in the last round bucket and distribute to the teams randomly. For instance, put the names (we're assuming that the number of players who fit in this category are very few... i.e. players who could not be ranked because no one knows anything about them) in a hat. Coaches with picks left in the final round draw a name out of a hat.

They do this in Little League to keep a coach from telling a Barry Bonds NOT to attend a tryout or evaluation. The coach would then pick up Barry in a late round because no one knew that he used steroids for 15 years and can hit the ball out of county.

From the posts made here it sounds as if KM had several on his team that he picked that were not "known about" throughout the league. Under the circumstances mentioned above, KM would have very little chance of selecting a sleeper... he would have to randomly draw their name out of a hat.

Guest @ 2011-10-11 14:54:58

What a bunch of cry babies!!! The draft is already fair. Sometimes some teams are going to be better than others. Even Kevin's team has already lost a game. I think the biggest problem is that some people are just going to complain no matter what. I've seen many players yell at other players on their own team which will kill any team, no matter the talent. Just grow up and come out and play. No one in this league is perfect so if you find yourself yelling at a teammate, then realize you are the problem, not the draft.

Guest @ 2011-10-11 22:04:52

You guys talk about spending time and ranking players in order before the draft.
If the captains would spend an hour and do that, I guarantee they could pick a decent team.
Just look at what chase did this season. He came to the draft prepared and picked a good team. You can not show up to
The draft with just a list of 80 players and expect to be able to go thru the entire list in one minute and get the best player available.
You are going to miss good players that are available.
I am all for making a change or two, but it has to start with the captains. If you want to be a captain, spend a little time and evaluate the list.

John koot was drafting over the phone. Do you really think you are going to get a great team driving down the road and drafting.

Need to draft some Referees that know what they are doing. I nominate Daryl Wolf and Kevin Jackson to quit playing next year and referee. Maybe even get Chuck Kim out there.

Guest @ 2011-10-12 16:20:20

If what Kevin says is correct, we probably should discuss changing captains, not just drafting procedures.

Guest @ 2011-10-13 09:54:18

I think that you are on to something with this draft, and you rlealy shouldn't feel compelled to start over unless you are completely uncomfortable with what you have so far. The form is already great, and how you begin to layer the material ~0:17 is very effective. If you decide to keep going with this polyphonic approach (and I encourage that!), I would recommend getting rlealy comfortable with editing MIDI in Logic so that you can tighten up how the different voices play off of each other. I hope that if you start over for Draft 3, it won't be too far off from this style!

Guest @ 2014-02-16 16:10:59

Excellent! I would not have guessed that you didn't take MIDI Composition based on this draft alone. I don't think that the tsriaitnons are at all bad, and it all sounds like a fairly cohesive musical idea already. The only technical concern that strikes me is when the bass is introduced at 0:25 and it is, rhythmically, at odds with the opening chimes. With only a little bit of massaging, I can see this becoming a very strong piece.
